ABSTRACT — The web can be a leading role in making corpora in terminology mainstream practice (Fletcher, 2004). This overview of corpus linguistics begins with a brief definition and key concepts. It then provides compelling reasons for their use and the key benefits of specialised corpus-based terminology on the Web. The second section discusses the application of pre-built corpora to ESP research, highlighting the areas within ESP that have benefited the most from such corpora. The paper concludes with a few classroom activities and constructive suggestions for teachers to use and find language material that meets their needs. It is also hoped that ESP teachers will be able to enhance their instruction by using specialized corpora and the web in order to provide learners with authentic and contextually relevant terminology specific to their field. This approach helps students acquire and internalize domain-specific vocabulary more effectively, allowing them to communicate accurately and confidently within their professional or academic domain.
