Description
This article investigates the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in speaking skill instruction, focusing specifically on teachers’ perspectives regarding their role in facilitating personalized learning. Drawing on qualitative data from educators involved in an AI-supported speaking curriculum, the study explores how AI tools influence instructional practices and learner engagement. Teachers reported that AI technologies provided real-time, individualized feedback, enabling students to identify and address errors independently. This, in turn, supported the development of higher-order speaking skills, such as idea development, coherence, and discourse organization. Participants also observed that AI tools allowed for differentiated instruction, catering to learners' varying proficiency levels and learning paces. While initial skepticism was noted, many educators experienced a positive shift in perception, viewing AI not as a replacement for traditional methods but as a complementary resource that enhances instructional effectiveness. The findings highlight the potential of AI to transform speaking instruction by promoting learner autonomy, increasing engagement, and supporting the development of personalized, student-centered learning environments.
