Description
In the era of rapid technological advancement, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a promising supportive tool in translator and interpreter education. Conducted from a student-researcher perspective, this study investigates the current practices, strategies, and perceived efficacy of integrating AI tools into self-directed interpreting practice among language undergraduates. Employing a mixed-methods research design, data were collected through quantitative surveys and qualitative semi-structured interviews with students currently enrolled in interpreting courses. The findings indicate that students primarily utilize AI platforms for terminology extraction, contextual breakdown, and simulated interactive practice to improve oral translation fluency. Strategic AI usage notably accelerates pre-interpreting preparation, enriches domain-specific vocabulary, and enhances students' confidence during live interpretation. However, the study also highlights significant challenges, including the risk of over-reliance on AI-generated suggestions and the technology's limitations in handling subtle cultural nuances and stylistic flexibility. Based on these insights, practical recommendations are offered to help language students leverage AI technologies effectively and autonomously in their interpreting learning journey.
