Description
Academic research is a crucial part of tertiary teachers’ ongoing professional development, and the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tools has transformed the way the research is conducted. This paper, therefore, aims to investigate how university lecturers are integrating AI-driven tools into their research practices to improve efficiency. Using a qualitative approach, the findings indicate that university lecturers utilize Gen AI tools for diverse purposes at different stages during the process of conducting research. Although expressing positive attitudes towards these tools, lecturers still acknowledge certain concerns in terms of ethics and precision. In addition, lecturers demonstrate autonomy in their adoption of Gen AI-driven tools but their practices are partially influenced by the community of practice, with some believing that not using it may result in disadvantages. This study is also an opportunity to gain further insights into how generative AI can be integrated to support teachers’ research practices.
