Abstract
The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed instructional material design, offering English teachers new ways to create lesson presentation slides. Among AI-powered tools, Canva AI has become increasingly popular for generating educational content through natural language prompts. However, little is known about English teachers’ perceptions and experiences of using prompt engineering for AI-assisted lesson slide design. This study aims to explore teachers’ perceptions, experiences, perceived benefits, and challenges of using prompt engineering with Canva AI. A convergent mixed-methods design will be employed, using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to collect data from English teachers. The findings are expected to provide practical implications for integrating prompt engineering into AI-assisted instructional material design and supporting English teachers’ professional development in the era of generative AI.
